PROFESSIONAL CHEMICAL PEELS

What are Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a professional skin treatment that use carefully selected acids or enzymes to exfoliate the skin and support skin renewal. They can help improve the appearance of skin texture, tone and overall skin quality.

At AW Aesthetics, Nurse Anita uses the professional Synergie Skin Peel Suite, selecting from a range of formulations and strengths to tailor each chemical peel treatment to your individual skin concerns, goals and suitability.

Chemical peels can be incorporated into a personalised skin treatment plan for concerns such as uneven skin tone, sun-damaged skin, congestion, acne-prone skin, dullness, dehydration, enlarged pores, fine lines and uneven skin texture.

Synergie Skin Professional Peel Suite

Enzyme HydroPeel

A gentle enzyme-based peel that provides superficial exfoliation to refresh and smooth the appearance of the skin. It can be incorporated into a personalised treatment plan for skin that appears dull, dehydrated, congested or uneven.

Lactic Acid Peel

Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that provides exfoliation while also supporting skin hydration. It may be selected for concerns including dullness, dehydration, uneven skin tone, fine lines and uneven skin texture.

Salicylic Acid Peel

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that is particularly suited to oily and congested skin. It may be selected for concerns including congestion, excess oil and acne-prone skin. Different strengths allow the treatment to be tailored according to individual skin condition and tolerance.

Layered Peel

The Layered Peel combines salicylic and lactic acid formulations to provide a more targeted approach to individual skin concerns. The treatment is selected according to your skin assessment, treatment goals and suitability.

Tetra Acid-50 Peel

Tetra Acid-50 combines mandelic, lactic, kojic and malic acids in a professional peel formulation. The combination of acids provides a multifaceted approach to exfoliation and skin renewal and may be selected as part of a personalised treatment plan according to your individual skin concerns and suitability.

Modified Jessner Peel

The Modified Jessner Peel combines lactic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol and kojic acid in a professional peel formulation. It is a more intensive peel that is selected according to your skin condition, treatment goals and previous treatment history.

Which Chemical Peel is Right for Me?

There isn't one chemical peel that is right for everyone. The most appropriate peel depends on your skin type, current skin condition, concerns, previous treatments, skincare routine and the results you're hoping to achieve.

During your consultation, Nurse Anita will assess your skin and determine which formulation and strength is most appropriate for you. This may include a gentler peel to introduce your skin to professional exfoliation, or a more targeted formulation where your skin is suitable.

Your treatment can also be progressively tailored over time. For some patients, a series of treatments at appropriate intervals may be recommended rather than starting with a more intensive peel.

Your skin will always be assessed before treatment to ensure the selected peel is appropriate for you. If a chemical peel isn't suitable at the time of your consultation, an alternative treatment or skincare approach may be recommended.

What Happens During Your Chemical Peel?

Your chemical peel treatment begins with a consultation and skin assessment. At each appointment, your medical history, current skincare, skin concerns and treatment goals are reviewed, and your suitability for the selected peel is assessed.

1. Consultation & Skin Assessment

Nurse Anita will discuss your skin concerns and determine the focus of your treatment. Your skin is assessed carefully, including its appearance, texture and barrier condition, to help determine which peel formulation and strength is most appropriate for you.

2. Skin Preparation

Your skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, skincare, oil and surface impurities. The skin is then prepared for the peel, with particular care taken around sensitive areas such as the eyes, lips and other areas that may require protection.

3. Peel Selection & Application

The appropriate Synergie Skin professional peel is selected based on your individual skin assessment and treatment goals.

The peel is carefully applied to the designated treatment areas. During application, Nurse Anita monitors your skin's response and your level of comfort throughout the treatment. You may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling or mild stinging, depending on the formulation selected.

4. Neutralisation or Removal

The peel is neutralised or removed according to the requirements of the specific formulation being used. Your skin is then assessed to ensure the treatment has been completed appropriately.

5. Calming & Skin Support

Where appropriate, a professional calming mask or supportive treatment may be used following the peel to help comfort the skin. Hydrating and soothing products are then applied according to your skin's needs.

6. Skin Protection & Aftercare

Your skin is finished with appropriate protective and supportive skincare, including sun protection where appropriate.

Before you leave, Nurse Anita will explain your personalised post-peel care and what to expect over the following days. You'll also be advised when to resume your usual skincare products and which active ingredients or treatments should be temporarily avoided.

Every chemical peel treatment is individually tailored. The formulation, strength, application and post-treatment care will depend on your skin and the specific peel selected.

Preparing for Your Chemical Peel

Appropriate preparation can help ensure your skin is in the best condition for a professional chemical peel. Depending on your skin, concerns and the peel selected, Nurse Anita may recommend a period of professional cosmeceutical skincare preparation before treatment.

This may include active skincare such as vitamins A, B and C, together with consistent daily sun protection. Your skincare routine will be tailored to your individual needs, and you’ll be advised which products to use or temporarily pause before your appointment.

Please let Nurse Anita know about any medications, allergies, recent cosmetic treatments, significant sun exposure or active skin conditions before your appointment. Some circumstances may mean your peel needs to be modified or postponed.

If you have recently had treatments such as laser, microdermabrasion, cosmetic injectables or facial waxing, please mention this during your consultation so appropriate treatment timing can be considered.

Your skin will be assessed before treatment, and your preparation and peel will be tailored to your individual skin and treatment goals.

Chemical Peel After Care

Your skin may be temporarily sensitive following a chemical peel, so appropriate aftercare is important while your skin recovers.

Immediately following your treatment

  • Use the skincare recommended by Nurse Anita to soothe and support your skin following treatment.

  • Avoid activities that cause significant heat or perspiration for the first 12 hours.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure, saunas, spas and chlorinated pools for at least 48 hours.

  • Avoid hot water, vigorous cleansing, rubbing or abrasive towels on the treated area.

  • Avoid makeup for at least 8 hours, unless mineral protection has been specifically recommended by your clinician.

  • Avoid picking, scratching or manually removing any peeling or flaking skin.

During the following days

  • Continue daily broad-spectrum sun protection and minimise unnecessary UV exposure.

  • Use a gentle cleanser and the recommended moisturising or recovery products while your skin is sensitive, dry or shedding.

  • Active skincare products, including vitamin A, vitamin C and exfoliating acids such as AHA/BHA, should only be reintroduced according to your personalised instructions and once any significant irritation or inflammation has settled.

  • Avoid facial waxing and other potentially irritating facial treatments while your skin is recovering.

  • Peeling or flaking may occur several days after treatment and will vary depending on the peel selected and your individual skin response.

Your aftercare will be tailored to the specific peel performed and your skin's response. Following your personalised instructions is important while your skin recovers and to help maintain your results.

If you experience unexpected or significant irritation following your treatment, please contact Nurse Anita for advice.

Downtime & What To Expect

The amount of peeling and downtime following a chemical peel will vary depending on the formulation and strength selected, your skin condition and your individual response to treatment.

Immediately following your treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink or feel warm, tight or sensitive. Over the following days, you may notice dryness, tightness, flaking or visible peeling as the skin naturally sheds.

Not every chemical peel will result in obvious peeling. The absence of visible peeling does not necessarily mean that the treatment has not been effective.

Your skin may look and feel different throughout the healing process before returning to its usual appearance. It is important not to pick, pull or manually remove any flaking skin, and to follow your personalised aftercare instructions carefully.

We recommend allowing approximately 3–7 days of skin healing time when booking your chemical peel. Your expected downtime will be discussed with you before treatment based on the particular peel selected.

How Often Should I Have a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are often most beneficial when performed as part of a structured treatment program rather than as a one-off treatment.

A minimum course of 4–6 chemical peel treatments, performed approximately fortnightly, is generally recommended as a starting treatment program. The exact number and frequency of treatments will depend on your skin condition, the peel formulation selected and how your skin responds throughout the course.

Your treatment plan can be reviewed and adjusted as your skin progresses, with ongoing treatments recommended according to your individual needs and goals.
